Video: Nissan GT-R turning hot laps at the ‘Ring

Earlier this month the first spy photos surfaced of the 2008 Nissan Skyline GT-R at the Nürburgring, and now we have a video of the GT-R turning some hot laps. As expected, it sounds like the GT-R is powered by a version of Nissan’s famous VQ-series V6. While you can’t hear the telltale whine of a turbocharger, they’re certainly there to get the performance that the GT-R needs to compete with the Lexus LF-A, Acura NSX and Porsche 911 Turbo. This prototype sounds like the engine is not mated to a traditional manual transmission, but is instead paired with some sort of paddle shifted transmission, perhaps a double clutch gearbox.
Based on the ever-present 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo following the GT-R in the footage, Nissan clearly has set some very high performance goals for the GT-R.
The Nissan GT-R is expected to premiere at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, with sales in the U.S. starting in early 2008.
